The 'Double Decker' Choice
Date: Thursday, 21 August 2008
Double Decker packaging is one of the latest applications from Europe. The pack is divided horizontally either with an insert or a layer of film insert to create two separate compartments.
Each layer can be filled with different gas mixtures to enable manufacturers to package completely different products and deliver a wider range of meal recipes to consumers.
For the same product in both layers (such as sliced meats or cheese), the bottom layer can be M.A.P. protected which prevents the need for the pack to be re-closable. "Double Decker" packaging can reduce the pack size by up to 30 percent.
As the sealing application is visually interesting, "Double Decker" packaging can be used for promotional activities like product piggy backing or 'buy one get one free'.
